DOG TRIALS
Geraldine Club YESTERDAY’S RESULTS Although there was a slight drizzle when the Geraldine Collie Dog Club commenced its annual two-day trials at Mr W. Blair’s property at Peel Forest yesterday morning, conditions Improved, but the weather remained dull and overcast throughout the day. Good entries were received and efficient arrangements ensured the success of the trials. The president, Mr T. T. Ritchie acted as supervisor, and the secretary, Mr T. J. Paterson carried out his duties most capably. An energetic committee, comprising Messrs T. T. Ritchie, D. G. Cain, W. Tait, W. Ashby, D. Pringle, D. Scully, R. A. Pringle, A. McLeod, G. T. Cain, J. Scully, T. C. Clarkson and A. Allan did useful work. Officials at the trials were—judicial committee, Messrs T. T. Ritchie, D. Pringle, T. J. Paterson, W. Ashby and W. Tait; timekeeper, Mr John Mcllroy, flag steward, Mr D. G. Cain; judges' stewards, Messrs W. Tait and A, McLeod; blackboard steward. Mr F. F. Johnston. Mr J. Davison (Hanging Rock) is the judge of the hill events, and Mr C. Johnston (Mayfield) the judge ot the driving competitions. A chain stepping competition was won by Mr T. C. Clarkson, who estimated the correct of distance of 20 yards, 2ft 31ins. The results were as follows: Open Huntaway and Local Maiden About 500 yards; time limit 12mins; possible number of points 60 (30 entries). W. F. Ross’ (Methven) Don Junior (55pts) 1 J. Scully's (Orari Bridge) Ben (481pts) 2 G. T. Cain’s (Rangitata) Brandy (48pts) 3 J. C. Evans’ (Geraldine) Storm (45pts) 4 Local Maiden Event (25 entries) J. Ross's Don Junior took the sheep away in excellent style through the first poles. He did good work but was slightly out of position when nearing the second poles. Don Junior made a good slew and. followed on nicely on a good line. He made a slight mistake when nearing the top poles; otherwise, it was an excellent performance. Noise and command were good. Time Tmins 29secs. . | J. Scully’s Ben got the sheep through i the first and second poles on a fair i line. He made a rather weak slew, but j did very fair work although a trifle j high to the third poles. Noise was I good and command fair. Time Smins 28secs. G. T. Cain’s Brandy did fair work ' through the first poles, but was off the | line slightly through the second. He was weak on the slew, but improved to I complete the course. Noise was good and command fair. Time Bmins I 45secs. J. C. Evans’s Storm allowed the sheep to break back, but he recovered well. He did better work through the second poles, and made a fair slew, completing in llmins 50secs.
