HELP FOR SPAIN AND SYRIA British Official Wireless (Received March 10. 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, March 9. Tire sum of £5OOO to the International Red Cross for the relief of distress in Spain was included in the Supplementary Estimates for the Diplomatic and Consular services and was discussed and approved in the House of Commons. A further vote of £4OOO was for the expenditure incurred in the re-settle-ment of 9000 Assyrians in Khabur, Northern Syria. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Mr R. A. Butler) explained that the money was for preliminary expenses in connection with irrigation and the preparation of settlement. The ultimate expenditure on the scheme was estimated at £50,000.
