DISCOVERY ON VELD
SURPRISE FOR FARMER That the Rhodesian native is not yet completely sophisticated is shown by an incident on a farm near Salisbury, states a correspondent of “The Times.” An excited native labourer dashed up to the fanner and reported that a strange new creature had been found on the veld. It had a smooth skin and ears not like anything seen before. The farmer seized his rifle, and, with visions of making zoological history, hurried to the scene, where he found four other natives with poised assegais on guard round the creature and shouting, “See, it shrinks." When the white man got a closer view pis visions collapsed even more quickly than the Mickey Mouse balloon which he saw, a relic of some festivity which, having come to earth again, was slowly deflating.
