WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

IKAWAI Mrs F. G. Mcßae presided over the November meeting of the Ikawai Women’s Institute. Reports of meetings held in connection with the proposed Domestic School at Pleasant Point were read. The competitions resulted as follows.—Miniature garden: Mrs Hamilton senr. 1, Mrs G. Cleland and Miss M. Cleland (equal) 2. Shoulder spray: Mrs Brown, Mrs G. Cleland and Miss N. Cleland (equal) 1, Mrs F. G. McRae 2. Specimen bloom: Mrs Hamilton jnr., Mrs Cleland and Miss Cleland equal 1. Gardening apron: Mrs F. G. Mcßae 1, Mrs Cleland 2. Miss J. Hamilton reported fully on the conference at Pleasant Point. An exchange of plants was held, and the latter part of the afternoon was spent socially. WAIHAO DOWNS Mrs H. Green presided at the monthly meeting of the Waihao Downs Women’s Institute. It was decided that a Drama Club be formed if possible, Mrs J. G. Millar to be the delegate to the meeting to be held at Waimate. Mrs H. Green gave a very interesting demonstration of Italian quUting. The competitions resulted as foUows: Best posy: Mrs 8. Preece and Mrs J. G. Millar (equal) 1, Mrs W. Newburn 3. Specimen bloom: Mrs J. Cromie and Miss P. Batchelor equal 1, Mhs J. G. Millar 3. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames W. Allen and Miss B. Sheddon.
