SUDDEN DEATHS
THREE IN AUCKLAND By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, November 23. The death occurred suddenly in Auckland of Mr Edward Collins, District Public Trustee at Nelson. Mr Collins had come to Auckland to attend the funeral of his sister, Miss Amelia Collins, and had just arrived from Nelson when he collapsed and died in a few minutes. He was well known throughout the Dominion, having been in the Public Trust office for some years. The death of the mate of the ferry steamer Takapuna just afte; he had let down the gangway when the boat reached town on the trip from Bayswater at 10.15 p.m. on Friday was found by Mr F. K. Hunt, Coroner, at the inquest, to have been th— result of heart disease.
George Simmons, mastei of the Takapuna, said he had ju; left the wheel and come on deck after the gangway was raised when he heard a thud and turned round to the mate. George Patterson, lying on the deck. Witness and another person lifted him to a locker, when be gave two or three gasps, and ceased breathing. Dr. Fowler, who made the post-mor-tem examination, stated that death was due to coronary thrombosis. In accordance with the medical evidence respecting the death of Hugh McDonald, a waterside worker, aged 63, who had dropped dead at the wharf after ceasing work on November 9 because he felt unwell, the Coroner found that death was due to eoronary thrombosis.
