AROWHENUA At the monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Women’s Institute an interesting and instructive address on electricity was given by Mr Read of the South Canterbury Electric Power Board. Mrs K. Rehu presided. In conjunction with Mr Read’s address Miss Marsden showed methods of resuscitation in case of electric shock. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the speakers. Arrangements for the annual birthday party and concert next month were completed. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mesdames Mihaka and O'Connor in the death of their nephew. The monthly competitions resulted.— Specimen bloom: Mrs McCrea 1, Miss Greaves 2, Mrs Paynter 3. Cup and saucer: Mrs Williams 1, Mrs Barrett 2, Mrs Paynter 3. Worked cushion: Miss J. Hopkinson 1, Miss A. Hopkinson 2. Mrs Paynter 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were: Mesdames Beaton and Meagher, Misses B. and J. Hopkinson.
