Addressing the Transport and General Workers’ Conference at Blackpool, Mr Ernest Bevin (secretary), amid loud applause, demanded the support of every member to drive out Communists from their ranks. He said the Communists were seeking to undermine the structure of trade unionism. "Documents show that “gangster tyranny goes on among men. .vho get in the clutches of the Communists," Mr Bevin added. Reviewing the achievements of the union during 1936, Mr Bevin emphasised that they had effected 4000 wage settlement.-, obtaining Increased wages for workers without the loss of a single day’s work. The fusion of the Labour Party and Trade Union co-operative movements, was the greatest popular front the world had ever known.
