ADJUSTMENT OF MORTGAGES
COPING WITH THE WORK
APPOINTMENT OF EXTRA COMMISSIONS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, May 18 The Attorney-General, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, announced to-day the appointment of additional Adjustment Commissions set up under the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Act, 1936. Mr Mason stated that the number of Commissions had been increased in order to cope with the number of applications received and minimise the time necessary to dispose of them. This was expedient, partly because it was the Government’s policy to clear up the matter of mortgage adjustment as early as possible in order that normal relationships may be resumed, and partly because the period of suspense was one of inconvenience to the parties. In rearranging the Commissions opportunity had been taken to transfer some of the Commissioners to Commissions nearer their homes so as to minimise the amount of travelling. The following Canterbury Commissions have been set up:— Christchurch City (No. I)—W. J. Hunter (chairman), J. M. Preston. Christchurch City (No. 2)—Ernest Albert Lee (chairman), J. K. Burt and B. J. McKenna. North Canterbury—John Roberts Cunningham, Christchurch (chairman), Colin Mclntosh (Rangiora) and C. H. Perkins (Christchurch). Mid-Canterbury James Emslie, Tirnaru (chairman), Alfred Gregory (Ashburton), Murdoch Bruce (Ashburton). South Canterbury (rural)—W. E. Mills, St. Andrews (chairman), Robert Sinclair (Morven), and Spence Ayrey (Walmate). South Canterbury (urban)—J. M. Jenkins, Tirnaru (chairman), and George Reid (Tirnaru).
