TRADE RECOVERY IN BRITAIN
WORKLESS PEOPLE REDUCED BUOYANCY OF NATIONAL REVENUE British Official Wlreles(Received May 5, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, May 4. Commenting on the reduction by 146,758 in the number of workless people in Britain which is shown by the latest monthly return "The Daily Telegraph” says: April marks a distinct stage in the conquest of unemployment. It is when twelve months recovery is fiewed as a whole that the solid nature of the advance becomes manifest in coal, the most basic of all our industries. Since April 1936, the increase in employment in the coal trade falls but little short of 100,000, cotton is second, while the engineering industry, the most sensitive to rearmament orders is only fourth. The plain truth Is that a good April has crowned a good 12 months and that the end of the recovery is not yet in sight.
