At the wool sales 8849 ■ bales were offered, including 5874 from New Zealand, and 7316 were sold. There was a moderate selection, mainly of New Zealand cross-breds, which were well cleared at full rates to the home trade. Other wools were frequently withdrawn. New Zealand lots sold as follows: Scoured merinos, Aviemore (top price, 33d), average 29Jd; greasy merino, C.T.K. (top price 21d), average 20id. The fact that Australia experienced her most successful wool season since 1928-29, is revealed in the annual review of Messrs Winchcombe Carson Ltd. the wool brokers.
Sydney prices during the 1936-37 season were 15 per cent, higher than in the previous year, and 60 per cent, above the 1934-35 level. The wool sold in the past season was worth approximately £62,000,000 in Australian currency.
The United Etites bought more than double the quantity purchased in the preceding year.
