The Jury returned a verdict of not guilty when lan Murdoch Mcßae, aged 20, a poultry farm assistant, was charged in the Supreme Court to-day with wilfully setting Are to a substance so that he knew a building might catch Are, the charge being slightly different from arson. The Crown Prosecutor said that on the night of January 11 the accused and another young man were strolling around the Howick Domain. They entered the pavilion, opened a locker, and saw some old tennis nets. The accused threw a lighted cigarette butt on the nets, causing a fire. After hearing the evidence, Mr Justice Callan, addressing the Jury, said they might consider that the case should not have come to the Supreme Court.
