Mar. 19 11.16 p.m. Full Moon Mar. 27 10.42 a.m. CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Although there was but a few hours of sunshine yesterday, conditions for most of the day being dull, the weather was calm and pleasantly mild. Records at the Timaru Park yesterday were.— Barometer—3o.22. Max. temp.—66.4. Min. temp, on grass—4s.2. Wind—Calm. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—7.l9 ins. Rainfall to date last year—l3.6oin. Sunshine—2.9 hours. Sunshine to date this year—4B2.7hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch— The weather was overcast and warm yesterday. A fresh north-east breeze was blowing. The barometer fell slowly and registered 30.26 in at 5 p.m. Ashburton— Although dull conditions were experienced yesterday morning, an improvement occurred later. The sky cleared and the sun shone brightly at intervals. The temperature was moderate and there was a light northeasterly wind. Geraldine— Dull and overcast, with fitful sunshine. Temuka— Yesterday was fine and warm with a light easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 67 degrees and the minimum 45. The glass was falling last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday)—Thermometer, maximum 59, minimum 48; bright sunshine, 2 hours 12 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in the last 24 hours, 62. Yesterday was overcast until about noon, when it brightened for the rest of the day. Dunedin— The weather yesterday was mild, with a light variable breeze. The barometer fell from 30.45 inches to 30.30 inches. The sky was cloudy in the morning and heavily overcast in the latter part of the day. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation—The intense anticyclone which has been covering New Zealand for the last few days is now moving eastwards and pressure is falling gradually under the influence of a depression advancing across the Tasman Sea. Winds—North-easterly to northerly, light to moderate generally, but gradually freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rather rough to rough north of East Cape; elsewhere slight to moderate, later rising about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea —Freshening northerly winds and rising seas. Weather—Fair to cloudy at first in most districts, but unsettled conditions and rain developing shortly in the western areas from Taranaki southwards and extending to most parts of the country within the next 24 to 36 hours; temperatures warm.
