THOUSANDS OF WORKERS AFFECTED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 18, 10.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 18. Almost 50 foundries are already idle as a result of the dispute with 2600 moulders and ii'onworkers. It is expected that 3500 persons, including men in kindred trades, will be thrown out of work by the week-end. The Unions are demanding the elimination of overtime and recently they resorted to irritation strikes, leading to the closing of the foundries. The men are now in a definite mood and in addition have demanded a 40-hour week before they wll) consent to resume.
