DIVORCE LAWS
DENOUNCED IN BRITISH COURTS United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 16. Several High Court judges lately protested vigorously against aspects of the divorce laws. The latest outburst is that of Mr Justice Swift, at the Birmingham Assizes, in a case where a husband and wife separated for fourteen years. Both had made other alliances and sought a discretionary divorce. "They want to be separated in law, and why not, when in truth they have been separated so long, but so that this may be done, they must bring a daughter to say that her mother was living with a man not her father; that he was living with a woman not her mother. The divorce laws of this country, to my mind, are wicked and cruel. I wish some of those learned ecclesiastics, who show so much concern for the well-being of society would come and sit here. It would not be long before the divorce laws were altered.”
