CRISES THREATEN IN EASTERN EUROPE

NAZI INTRIGUE IN HUNGARY MONARCHISTS ACTIVE IN AUSTRIA WAR ON FASCISTS AND COMMUNISTS United Press Association—By Eleafrto Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 8, 7.15 p.m.) VIENNA, March 7. The Austrian public are greatly perturbed by the reports of the intended Hungarian Nazi coup-de-etat which the Premier (M. Daranyi) frustrated by the most energetic measures, after the revelation of a plot by the Opposition leaders who produced pamphlets circulated among the peasants, emphasising the necessity for replacing the Daranyi Government by a pro-Ger-man pro-Nazi regime. Among the various advantages promised the peasants was a total remission of debts. The newspapers give lengthy details of the preparations for the putsch, Including a march on Budapest of landless workers and students on March 8, led by Bela Marton, a friend of the late President Gomboes, to proclaim a dictatorship in Hungary which President Gombos on his deathbed refused. M. Daranyis's moderation on coming Into power, angered Dr. Marton who resigned the secretaryship of the Government party. Thereafter he combined with the extremists and army officers and planned the coup. It is understood that M. Daranyi has proofs that German money reached the conspirators through Herr Hahn and that a German diplomatic bag was used to smuggle Nazi leaflets to Budapest. It is also alleged that among the intriguers is the head of a semiofficial co-operative society who stored arms and munitions. It is expected that high police officials in Budapest, who were absent from the capital during the critical week, will be retired. MONARCHIST ACTIVITIES IN AUSTRIA DANGEROUS SITUATION DEVELOPING united Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 8, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 7. The Vienna correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph" says that in spite of Italian and German discouragement the Austrian monarchists are incleasing their activities. All monarchist organisations were represented at a meeting to which the Government sent the Vice-Chancellor (Field Marshal Hulgerth) and many prominent officials. The Nazis demonstrated by throwing huge stink bombs and shouting “Down witii the speakers.” Dr. Seiner, Vice-President of the Monarchists soldiers’ ring, violently attacking the Nazis, declared: "We will clear both the Nazis and Communists from the way. There is little difference between the two. Monarchism leads in Austria and we demand the restoration of Archduke Otto as the head of a Christian German authoritarian state.”
