NATIONAL PARTY

LEADER’S NORTHERN TOUR e? Teiegraoh —Pres? Association AUCKLAND, March 8. A 16 days’ tour of the Auckland province was commenced to-day by the Leader of the National Tarty, the Hon. Adam Hamilton. He arrived from Wellington by the Limited Express. As the express was more than an hour late, Mr Hamilton was obliged to leave almost immediately by car for Warkworth en route to Whangarei. “I have had very encouraging welcomes on my tours in the south,” he said in the course of an interview, "and I am looking forward to making contacts with many supporters of the party In the north. As you know I have not spent much time in this part of New Zealand before, and the trip should be an interesting experience. I have had many letters from fanners and others, especially in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, saying that they wish to meet me.”

Mr Hamilton remarked that he had not undertaken a comprehensive speechmaking tour earlier because he felt that the new Government should not be subjected to criticism from the platform until it had had time to settle down and put its policy into effect. The Government had now been a year in office, and the time was ripe for a discussion-, of its record. Supporters of the National Party at Warkworth entertained Mr Hamilton at luncheon, and he addressed a public meeting at Whangarei in the evening. He will hold further meetings at Kerlkeri, Ohaeawal and Wellsford. Three days of the tour will be devoted to Auckland city. Mr Hamilton is to leave for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty districts on Monday, and he will return to Wellington In time to address a large meeting of business men on March 24.
