CONDITIONS IN TIMARU The fog cleared yesterday morning, leaving the remainder of the day clear and sunny. The weather was perfect with a light breeze blowing from the east and temperature warm and summerlike. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were Barometer—29.72. Max. tern. —60. Min. temp, on grass—3B. Frost —Nil. Wind —N.N.E.2. Rainfall —.Olin. Rainfall to date this year—22.27in. Rainfall to date last year—l4.42ins. Sunshine—B.6 hours. Sunshine to date this year—l3s6.7hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: The weather yesterday was again fine and clear with a moderate E.N.E. breeze in the morning and a fresh easterly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 59 degrees and the barometer, falling slowly, stood at 29.8 inches last evening. Geraldine: Air temperatures, min. 33, max. 64, at 9 a.m. 57. Bright sunshine throughout the day. Temuka: A thick heavy fog again enveloped Temuka yesterday morning, but the sky cleared later. Bright sunshine prevailed for the remainder of the day. Towards evening a light sou'wester commenced to blow. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees and the minimum 38; the glass was inclined to fall. Waimate (for the previous 24 hours ended 9 a.m. Thursday): Thermometer, highest 57; lowest, 34,4; frost, 3 degrees; bright sunshine, 6 hours 12 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 25. Yesterday was bright and warm throughout the day. Dunedni: There was a fresh breeze from the north-east yesterday, but the sun shone brightly and conditions generally were mild. The maximum temperature was 65 degrees. The barometer fell sharply throughout the day. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation: A shallow cyclone is moving eastwards past the northern extremity of the Dominion, while a westerly depression is advancing across the Tasman Sea. An anti-cyclone now covers the whole of Australia, the Centre being over the middle portion of the great Australian bight. Winds: Moderate to strong but decreasing, easterly to north-easterly in the Auckland province; elsewhere northerly to north-westerly prevailing, light to moderate mainly at first, but freshening and backing to southerly to-night in the far south, and southerlies extending over most of the Dominion within the next 24 to 36 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough north of Cape Palliser; elsewhere moderate, but rising south of Cape Egmont and in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly wind in the far northern portion; elsewhere moderate to fresh northerly to north-westerly, but southerlies becaming general during tomorrow, and wind and sea increasing. Weather: Dull and misty with scattered rain in the northern and northeastern portions of the North Island, but soon improving temporarily; elsewhere fine at first, but unsettled conditions and rain developing in the western and southern parts of the South Island, and extending shortly over most of the Dominion. Temperatures mild, but a cool change setting in during to-morrow.
