LABOURER SENTENCED TO DEATH United Press Association —By Electric TPlearaph Copyright (Received September 3. 10.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 3. At the Criminal Court to-day. Maurice Auld, aged 27, a labourer, was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Mary Deas, aged 70, at Hornsby last May. The evidence disclosed that Auld savagely assaulted the woman, who lived in a hilt in a lonely spot in the oUtfer suburb. He robbed her of £5 10s. The injuries he inflicted caused the woman's death. Auld declared that his crime was due to drink, . nd he expressed deep regret that the woman died. The jury recommended Auld to mercy.
