Four days of rough weather were followed to-day by falls of snow in Invercargill and in the country, but it soon disappeared in the city. A strong wind blew al) day, and it was very cold for this time of the year. There was a light coating of snow on the ground at mid-day ahd more fell late this afternoon. Reports from tM country districts indicate that snow was general throughout the province. The weather has broken at a bad time for farmers, as the lambing season has begun. Snow started at Mossburn and Lumsden about 7 o’clock this morning and there was three inches on the ground this evening. A sharp frost was experienced in tho'e districts last night. Conditions in Invercargill had improved this evening. FEARS FOR EARLY CROP By leieerapn Pres* Association DUNEDIN, September 3. Cold wintry conditions prevailed in Dunedin to-day. A heavy fall of snow about mid-day was followed during le afternoon and evening by intermittent falls which coated the surrounding hills. The fall was general in most districts in Otago, being very heavy about Alexandra, where it is still snowing. All the roads are clear in the meantime. Fruitgrowers in Central Otago will be severely hit if frost follows the snow as apricots and other early fruit are at present ih bloom. There is no sign of the WeatHßf clearing.
