LAWN TENNIS
BAPTIST CLUB The annual meeting of the Baptist Tennis Club was held on Tuesday evening when the Rev. J. R. Grave presided over a small attendance of members. As revealed by the annual report the season had been a very full and successful one. The affiliation with the South Canterbury Association seemed to have been a good move, as players had enjoyed playing on the grass courts, and it had been a new and helpful experience for members. The team had two wins and* three losses. This result was satisfactory considering the standard of play at Maori Park. Appreciation was expressed of the Interest taken by friends of the Club, and of the help given in many ways. The treasurer’s statement showed that the club had managed to hold its own as regards finance. It was decided, in view of the considerable outlay necessary for repairs to the courts during the coming season, that subscriptions be raised to 16/- for men and 13/6 for women, with a penalty of 2/- if not paid by December 31. It was decided to have repairs completed before play for the season commenced. A revised list of rules was adopted. Opening day was fixed for September 26. The election of officers resulted: President, Rev. J. Russell Grave; vicepresidents, Messrs R. Sinclair, T. Foden, F. G. Head, J. Armstrong; secretary. Miss Netta McLeod; treasurer. Mr J. Thompson; club captain, Mr R. Armstrong; vicecaptain, Mr E. Spence; committee, Miss Jean Brice, Mr T. Green, Mr O. Gillespie; ground steward, Mr O. Gillespie.
