TEMUKA CLUB
OBJECTION TO REFEREE Because players, officials and supporters of the Temuka Football Club consider that it is not fair either to Miss M. C. Beri or Mr H. J. Harris, to have one game between Star and Temuka to decide the winners of both trophies, there is a strong probability that Temuka will not field a team for the match to-morrow at Praser Park. The Club also has expressed an objection to the Rugby Union’s choice of a referee for the game. The Club feels that it would be unfair to have both trophies decided on the result of the one game, said a prominent Temuka official, who was Interviewed yesterday. The players felt that it was belittling both trophies, and several of them had notified the coach that they were not available as a protest against the Union’s action.
The appointment of Mr A. B. Rowlands was not viewed favourably by Temuka Rugby followers and the opinion was held by a considerable number of players and officials that the team should not take part in the game. GOOD MATERIAL FOE NEXT YEAR By Telegraph Pr»«s«. ■xssncißttrn NAPIER, September 3 After being confined to bed for nearly a week on account of a severe attack of influenza, Mr G. Shaw, manager of the touring Australian Rugby team, left Napier this afternoon for Wellington to see the first test match on Saturday. When interviewed just before his departure, Mr Shaw said he did not think the present team was the strongest Australia could muster. The team was a combination of youth and experience. Some of the young players would make good material for matches against the South Africans next year.
