WAIMATE
GRANTS TO PUPILS TRAVELLING AND BOARD ALLOWANCES Grants to facilitate the attendance of pupils at post primary schools will in future be made by the Education Department, according to advice received by the Waimate High School Board. Details of the grants approved are: (a> I 6d per return trip for each pupil conveyed to the nearest post-primary school, provided the home is more than three miles from the school by the shortest route, (b) 8d per return trip where the pupil’s home is five miles or more from the school, (c) Two-thirds of the recognised rates in the case of a pupil using a horse where roads are non-existent or are unsuitable for wheeled traffic, (d) 5/- per week for the board of each pupil who, through impracticability of conveyance, has to live away from home in order to attend a post primary school. The boarding allowance is. payable only if no means of daily transport are available and the distance involved is so great that the pupil cannot be expected to ride to school on horseback or by cycle. A pupil cannot receive a boarding allowance as well as a conveyance allowance or a free school season ticket for daily or week-end travel.
