OPIUM ADDICT

SENTENCE POSTPONED By Telegraph —Press Association AUCKLAND, November 7. Chan Fun, a Chinese fruiterer (48). one of nine men arested in an opium den last week, was brought up for sentence before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., this morning. A medical specialist gave evidence that the man had an incurable form of tuberculosis, and was an opium addict. Because of the danger of infection it was unadvisable to send him to prison, and he was not a suitable patient for a sanatorium, but for a shelter. “In his present state he is a menace, and should be segregated," said Mr Wilson, and remanded him till December 5, pending arrangements to place him in a shelter or being shipped to China by his compatriots.
