HILTON SCHOOL JUBILEE PUPILS’ SPORTS Parents and members of the Jubilee Committee were present at the postponed sports for present pupils of the Hilton School. Mr A. G. Bryant generously provided afternoon tea for the children, the parents catering for the adults. At the conclusion of the sports the children cheered Mr Bryant for his kindness in providing afternoon tea, and the Jubilee Committee for giving the sports prizes. Mrs Toomey. ATHLETICS A meeting of the committee of the Geraldine Amateur Athletic Club was attended by the president (Mr A. M. Fyfe), and Messrs A. N. Loach, J. S. Lorimer, L. Coulter and I. G. Anderson (secretary). The treasurer presented a financial statement, which showed that donations had been made by Messrs J. H. Lewis and L. J. Bennington. The donors were thanked, and it was also decided to thank the Temuka Athletic Club for assisting at the first evening sports meeting. The programme for the next meeting will comprise 100 yards, 220, 440 and 880 yards races, and high jump and long jump events. In connection with the cup competition it was decided to adopt the subcommittee’s recommendation that it be awarded to the athlete who won it twice in succession, or three times at Intervals. It was agreed that five points be awarded for first place, three for second and one for third. Messrs Fyfe, Lorimer, Coulter and Anderson were appointed a sub-com-mittee to draw up a syllabus for the season.
The secretary was instructed to apply to the Domain Board for the use of the Oval for sports meetings on November 23 and January 18. On the motion of the president and Mr Lewis, it was agreed that Mr R. L. Hayes who had been the prime mover in the formation of the club, and who had recently left the district, be elected an honorary member. BENEFIT DANCE The Geraldine Football Club, assisted by the Geraldine Basketball Club and the Geraldine and Orari Bridge Women’s Divisions of the Farmers’ Union, held an enjoyable dance in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening to assist a club member who had had the misfortune to break a leg during a match last season. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss G. Stevenson and Mr W. Lapthorn, and a lucky spot waltz by Miss K. McKay and Mr J. Davies. Messrs F. J. Wood and H. J Brenton acted as M.C.’s. During the interval, the president of the Geraldine Football Club (Mr W. H. Jackson), thanked all who had worked to make the dance a success. METHODIST CHURCH JUBILEE Special services were conducted by the Rev. W. E. Moore this week in connection with the seventieth anniversary of Methodism in Geraldine, and the diamond jubilee of the church. Special music included solos by Messrs E. Undrill and N. Hooper. The functions will be concluded with a garden party and social evening. BOWLING The following will represent Geraldine against Park Club at Timaru tomorrow: H. S. Turner (s), A. G. Malins, J. H. Woolhouse, J. J. Mulvey; A. J. Burmester (s), J. D. McKechnie, W. T. Turner and A. G. Brown; C. Stock (s), T. J. Paterson, C. J. MacGregor, E. H. Logan; G. Loach (s), W. H. Broad, G. R. Knibb and E. Simpson. Owing to the absence of a number of players the Geraldine Club has been obliged to forfeit the match against Kia Toa in the first game in the three-rink competition. TENNIS The following will represent the Geraldine Club against St. Joseph’s, Temuka, at St. Joseph’s courts, tomorrow afternoon: C. Stringer, A. Gimson, J. Stewart; Misses A. Wil'iamson, B. Dean, F. Williamson, F. Haskins. “THE LIVES OF A BENGAL LANCER.” Paramount’s ‘‘The Lives of a Bengal Lancer,” comes to the Municial Theatre to-night.
