ABYSSINIA’S STRONG STAND
ITALIAN TROOPS BOUND FOR AFRICA United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright GENEVA, May 13. The Abyssinian Government this morning presented a strongly-worded Note to the League of Nations. The Note declared that Italy’s preparations left no doubt of her hostile intentions and complained that despite her promises to the League of Nations Council in January and April, Italy had failed to appoint arbitrators to arrange for a peaceful settlement, although Abyssinia offered on May 10 to announce the names of her arbitrators.

The Italian Government this evening informed the Abyssinian Government that the two Italian representatives for the conciliatory commission had been chosen, and also announced that three transports with 3000 troops, including artillerymen, guns and workmen, were departing for East Africa during the week.
PROPOSED FRIENDLY APPEAL FOR PEACE RECEIVED WITH ILL-GRACE IN ITALY United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 14, 9.35 p.m.) LONDON, May 14. The Rome correspondent of "The Times” says that: ‘"The proposal that France and Britain should make a joint representation to Italy regarding Abyssinia has been received with illgrace. The Italian newspapers express their inability to understand the "wave of alarm” that is sweeping over the French and British newspapers, and declare that diplomatic intervention would only encourage Abyssinia’s resistance in the illusion that it possesses the strong Powers support, which will only aggravate the situation.
