WOODBURY

WEEK-END WEATHER Fine but cold weather was experienced over the week-end. Frosts of eight and 10 degrees were registered on Sunday and Monday respectively. KING’S JUBILEE On Friday afternoon the Woodbury School celebrated the Jubilee of King George and Queen Mary by the planting of a lime tree in the school grounds. The Rev. Canon Coursey, of Geraldine, was the speaker, and gave an address to the assembled pupils on the birth and growth of the British Empire, and reviewed the reign of our present King. The speaker concluded his address by reading the King’s broadcast speech to the children of the Empire, and exhorted his hearers to remember that the future of the Empire depended on their loyalty. The senior pupils of the school, Nancy Bates and Keith Baker then planted a lime tree. The proceedings finished with the singing of the National Anthem. A special Jubilee thanksgiving service was held in the Woodbury Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon, the preacher being the Rev. W. j! Couling, who preached from St. Luke 22, 27: “I am among you as he that serveth.” This was the text used by the Archbishop of York at the King’.; Coronation. Special hymns and Psalms were sung by the congregation.
