PLEASANT POINT

SUCCESSFUL CONCERT In spite of unfavourable weather the concert arranged by the District High School staff in aid of school funds, which was held in the Town Hall on Thursday night, was attended by an overflowing audience. The programme, which was a nicely varied one, reflected credit on the organisers and performers. At an interval between items, Mr W. B. Oborn, chairman of the committee, returned thanks for the fine support accorded. He said that the committee’s funds would be augmented to the extent of about £25. This was really a wonderful result on such a wet night. The programme was as follows: Pianoforte duet, Misses Dorothy Davison and Hazel Mouat; infants, Christmas tree (operetta); recitation, Master Oldham; Alsatian dance, Std. V. and VI.; chorus, “Chinaman,” Std. I. and 11. recitation, “White Butterfly,” Betty Cartwright; Intruder (playette), Std. 111. and IV.; back to front drill, boys; play, “Conceited Pirate,” High School boys; interval; play, “Clock Watchers,” Std. V. and VI.; drill, High School boys; chorus, “Winter,” Std. I. and II.; dance, Pam Benham and Betty Cartwright; Drum-Majors’ display, boys; chorus, Std. V. and VI.; recitation, Eileen Halkett; medley, High School.

SCHOOL FARM COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Pleasant Point District High School Farm Committee there were present—Messrs A. H. Roberts (chairman), T. W. Agnew, J. Chapman, C. Chapman, C. Lyons, T. Kelliher, W. B. Oborn (chairman school committee), J. Wooffindin, R. Kingston, C. Halkett (school committee), J. J. McGuigan (headmaster), and A. K. Easterbrook (secretary and treasurer). The chairman reported that all the thirds in peas had been disposed of. , The monthly visitors, Messrs Roberts and Wooffindin, reported to the committee that the ploughing preparatory to wheat sowing had been completed, the fencing was being continued, and that the potatoes were ready to be dug. It was decided to dig the potatoes, the arrangements being left in the hands of Mr Agnew. It was decided that the potatoes be offered for sale locally. With the help of the school staff it was decided to carry out experiments in top-dressing in the grass plots. The question of putting up a new fence along the school road was left to Mr Roberts to inquire into the probable cost. Mr McGuigan was asked to see the woodwork instructor, Mr C. Roberts, as to the boys making a gate to replace the one opposite the saleyards and to fit the posts already there. Mr Agnew was appointed the monthly visitor.
