CHANGE IN THE HALFHOLIDAY * MUCH DISCUSSION The electors’ decision that a change in the town’s half-holiday was desirable has added more fuel to the fire of controversy that has been burning for some time, and much of yesterday morning, the Thursday half-day being observed as usual, was devoted by shop keepers to discussing the result of the poll. The date for the official changeover will not be known for some time as it is governed by the Department of Labour and comes into force any time within three months after the date of the Minister of Labour’s gazetting the result of the poll. The official re-count of all local polls will commence at 9 a.m. to-day. VALEDICTORY To farewell Miss L. C. Brown, of the teaching staff of the Watt-Lowry Side-School and Miss I. L. A presentation of a book to each of the guests was made by Mr Harrison, who said he hoped that both would find their new positions pleasant and to their advancement.
