It is said that records in the field of sport are made to be broken, but at least one record, established by G. Lindsay, the veteran champion of the Winton Tennis Club, Southland, is likely to stand for many years, and if it is eclipsed it will take 14 years to do so. Since 1921 Lindsay has won the men’s championship title of the Winton Club on 14 occasions, 12 of which have been in succession. Monowai Power Station At a special meeting of the Southland Electric Power Board yesterday, Mr F. T. M. Kissel, chief electrical engineer to the Public Works Department, submitted an offer to purchase, on more favourable terms than previously, the generating' station at Monowai, and part of the reticulation system, on condition that the Board purchased all its future power requirements from the Government, says a Press Association message from Invercargill. The meeting was held in committee and after discussion the Board decided to instruct its officers to investigate the offer and report to the Board. Mackenzie County Election When asked by a representative of “The Timaru Herald” yesterday, only about half of the Mackenzie Council members could give any intimation as to whether they would contest the forthcoming county elections. The members who have to date stated their intention of standing again are Messrs Geo. Murray (chairman). W. Scott, C. A. Parker and C. J. Talbot. The last named qualified his statement about standing by adding that he was fairly certain, but not definite. It is rumoured in Fairlie that Mr P. Neilson might possibly contest the election in that riding. Mr I. Allan is mentioned as a Tekapo candidate. Session Ends The special session of Parliament which concluded yesterday covered the longest period over which any session in the history of New Zealand has lasted, and in addition provided the greatest number of sitting days for any one session since the establishment; of the institution, says a Press Association message from Wellington. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates expressed appreciation of the services of Mr Speaker (Sir Charles Statham), officers of the House, and he extended thanks to the Leader and Members of the Opposition for their restraint. Mr M. J. Savage (Leader of the Opposition), supported Mr Coates, and the session concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.

Lay-out for Scenic Reserve Mr David Tannock, superintendent of gardens, reserves and plantations at Dunedin, who has consented to give the Timaru Borough Council his advice and assistance in connection with the lay-out and planting of the new Scenic Reserve, is expected to be in Timaru about the middle of next week, and will spend a few days here inspecting the reserve and getting out plans and specifications for the Council to work on. Mr Tannock is well known as one of New Zealand’s most eminent horticulturists, and Timaru is most fortunate in having secured the assistance of such an authority to plan the beautification of the Scenic Reserve, which should become a rare beauty spot in years to come.
