At the Sydney sports ground tonight professional athletic champions were seen in action. The British Empire 100 yards championship was won by W. McFarlane, the British champion, with Austin Robertson, the Australian champion, second. The time was lO^sec. An attempt to lower the 80 yards world’s record was made by E. Tolan, the American Olympic champion, whose time was 8 2-16 sec, whereas the world’s record stands at 7isec, and the Australian record at 7 4-ssec. An attempt upon the 100 metres record was made by Tolan, who ran the distance in 10 11-16 sec. The world’s amateur record is 10 3-10 sec, and the Australian 10 4-ssec, but there is no professional record.
