AMUSEMENTS

"STAMBOUL QUESTFASCINATING SPY STORY A fascinating story of Continental espionage is unfolded in "Stamboul Quest,” which had a most successful opening at the Majestic yesterdaj. It stars Myrna Loy and George Brent, who are supported by a capable cast. A feature of the programme is a riotous Laurel and Hardy comedy. "Splendid Fellows" "Splendid Fellows,” a fine story of love and adventure In Australia, acted solely by Australians, will be shown at the Majestic on Saturday. The story, gleaned from Australia’s Centenary celebrations, is new, modern to the minute, and thrilling all the way through. The producer has got away from Australia’s past, and presents her as she is to-day, in a vivid and gripping picture of backblocks and city life. The story, combining actual scenes from the Melbourne Centenary Air Race, is a very human one, with an appealing yet not exaggerated love theme; it concerns a flying parson, a not infrequent personage of the great expanses of inner Australia, his blind prospector friend, and the daughter of a wealthy squatter. There is an outstanding cast and the settings are said to be excellent.

THC REGENT "THANK YOUR STARS” PLEASES A romantic story with a splendid musical background is to be had in “Thank Your Stars,” a tuneful production which was well received at the Regent yesterday. Alison Skipworth, Dorothy Dell, Arline Judge, Jack Oakie, Roscoe Karns and Ben Bernie and his band are just some of the players in this happy show which should please everyone. “Twenty Million Sweethearts” A distinct innovation in film entertainment is offered in Warner Bros.’ “Twenty Million Sweethearts,” which will be the Regent’s coming attraction. The picture, which is based on the story by Paul Finder Moss and Jerry Wald, is a combination of comedy, romance, drama, and rare musical numbers. Dick Powell takes the lead as a singing waiter who leaps to fame as a radio crooner. Opposite him plays Ginger Rogers, who has frequently sung over the radio, and also in musical eomedy on the New York stage. They are ably supported by a strong cast, including Pat O’Brien, Grant Mitchell, the four Mills brothers, and Ted Fio Rito and his band.
