THE GERMAN MENACE

To the Editor of " The Timaru Herald ' Sir—Notwithstanding all that responsible statesmen have said to the contrary, "Touchstone” still believes that Germany was solely to blame for the World War. Here, it seems to me. he is mistaking popular war propaganda for authentic history. He still also desires the extermination of the entire German population, as a punishment for their past offence, and | to prevent them from perpetrating ani other and a greater crime against humanity. If Gavril Princip precipitated the great war by shooting one man, the Archduke of Austria, what sort of a mess would “Touchstone” make of the world were it possible for him to effect the assassination of a whole nation? “Touchstone” deals very clearly with one aspect of this sub- ! ject, but his view is too circumscribed Ito be fair. He carefully examines | about 10 per cent, of the available facts, j and ignores the other 90 per cent., j thus arousing the suspicion that most J of his information has been obtained j from some of the thousands of clever propagandists, employed by armament firms to scare the nations into arming against one another, greatly to the profit of those firms. There are many views of the great war besides that presented by “Touchstone.” The one that appeals to the present writer as harmonising most with known facts, is that, the war was planned and carefully prepared for, by a small group of men who had, long before, set themselves the task of securing world domination, by capturing control of the world’s money supply, the “Press,” many governments and numerous industries, by enlisting the aid of the money-mad, by creating class divisions, fomenting strikes, revolutions and wars; by lending money to rulers whom they helped and encouraged to exploit all useful citizens, by sprinkling parliaments with their loyalists, and plantng their agents in the more important key positions in all leading countries, in readiness for “The Day.” That such a group exists may be gathered from the following quotations, and, it will also be seen that complete world domination is its final objective. Speaking prior to the War, Sir Josiah Stamp, a British director of the Bank of England said: “Never before in the history of the world, has such power been vested in the hands of a small group of men. These men have the welfare of the world in their hands, and, they could upset all the rest of us, either deliberately, or by some unconscious action.” After the war had been in progress for some time, Hillaire Belloc wrote: “The great war brought thousands upon thousands up against the staggering secret, they had never suspected . . . the complete control exercised over things absolutely necessary for the nation’s survival, by half a dozen aliens who were completely indifferent whether we or the enemy should emerge alive from the struggle.” When Lord Northcliffe learned that this group had secured control of Britain’s purse, and were cornering war material, which they were shipping to Holland, without let or hinderance, he addressed the whole world in these words: “These men have us in the hollow of their hands, and, at any moment they could crush Canada, Belgium, France, Italy, Russia and ourselves.” Your readers will no doubt wonder whether Germany or any other country could begin a war without the sanction of this powerful oligarchy, which had a stranglehold over every country, and, they will incline to the belief that the group of aliens itself, engineered the war, to weaken opposition to the furthering of its schemes, by having Germany, France and England batter each other to ruin. In 1920, “The Times” declared editorially that, up to date, these aliens had carried out to the letter, their programme of world mastery. If America, Russia and Hitlerised Germany cannot destroy the power of this group, the nations will continue to go along the road they entered upon four years ago.—l am, etc., A. M. PATERSON.
