REINSTATEMENT AS AMATEURS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, November 29. Regulations for the reinstatement of professionals anxious to regain their amateur status were discussed at the quarterly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association this evening, and the following rules laid down: Each case to be considered on its merits, and every application to be submitted through an affiliated association; the management committee must be satisfied of the con- * duct of the applicant during the time he was a professional; an applicant before reinstatement must cease all his professional activities for a period considered reasonable by the management committee and commensurate with circumstances of the individual case. CHAMPIONSHIPS OF NEW SOUTH WALES MISS HARTIGAN BEATEN IN WOMEN’S SINGLES United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 29, 11.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 29. A feature of to-day’s play in the New South Wales tennis championships, which were continued in hot weather, was the elimination of the Australian women’s singles champion, Miss Joan Hartigan, at the hands of the tall Queenslander, Mrs Westmacott. Results:— Men’s Singles. Semi-Finals. J. H. Crawford defeated H. Hopman, 8-6, 0-6, 6-4. 6-3. F. J. Perry (England) defeated A. K. Quist, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. Women's Singles. Semi-Finals. Mi-s Westmacott defeated Miss J. Hartigan, 7-5, 6-4. Miss D. Round (England) defeated Miss N. M. Lyle (England), 7-5, 6-3. Men’s Doubles. Quarter-Finals. H. Hopman and E. Maier (Spain) delected R. A. Menzey (Czechoslovakia) and E. F. Moon, 6-3, 6-3, 8-g.
V. G. Kirby (South Africa) and A. K. Quist defeated Dunlop and Donohue 6-4, 6-2, 7-5. J. H. Crawford and V. B. McGrath defeated D. Thompson and Moore, 6-4, 6-4, 6-1. P. J. Perry and G. P. Hughes (England) defeated Walker and H. Sproule 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Women's Doubles. Quarter-Finals. Mesdames Mesmaeott and Molesworth defeated Misses Dingle and Coyne, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Misses J. Hartigan and D. Bickerton defeated Misses Hattersley and Sellwin, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1. Miss D. Round (England) and Mrs H. Hopman defeated Misses Chrystal and Garlick, 6-0, 8-6. Misses E. M. Dearman and N. M. Lyle (England) defeated Misses Chitty and Blick, 6-1, 6-1. The Crawford v. Hopman singles was a poor match and the play was unimpressive. Perry was in superb form. His strokes were so well concealed that frequently he left Quist standing when advancing to the net. Perry on the other hand was never out of position. TEAMS FOR TO-MORROW Baptist v.
