SPANISH ATTACK ON PRESS
FOREIGN JOURNALS IN DISFAVOUR
SENSATIONAL ARRESTS OF CORRESPONDENTS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received November 9, 7.15 p.m.) LONDON, November 9. The Madrid correspondent of “The Times” says that constant complaints regarding information published abroad, being made by the Spanish Press, culminated in the arrest of many newspaper correspondents. Mr Reginald Calvert, Madrid correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph,” was taken from his home, but the British Embassy later secured his release. Mademoiselle Thierry, correspondent of “L’Oeuvre,” was arrested and expelled, due, it is believed, to articles on the Catalonian situation. Other journalists have been arrested and expelled from Spain as undesirables.
