THE MELBOURNE SCOUT JAMBOREE

GENERAL INFORMATION The New Zealand contingent will be organised as follows: Contingent Headquarters, comprising the New Zealand Camp Chief (Commissioner J. R H. Cooksey, Napier), Assistant Cam,. Chief (Commissioner J. D. Cottrell, Dunedin), Providore or Quartermaster, the Contingent Banker and all Commissioners. The contingent will be a tribe divided into hapus (troops) of 22 Scouts under 3 Scouters. Two hapus will make up 50 as desired by Australian Headquarters. It is the intention of Commissioner Cooksey to organise hapus from Scouts in districts who are in touch with each other.

As the weather in Australia is bound to be hot, it would be advisable for New Zealanders to be clad In light uniform, thin khaki shirt and shorts. The shirt sleeves should come down no longer than two inches below the elbow joint. An old uniform shirt and shorts will be useful for “knock about” wear In camp.

All Lady Scouters will be accommodated in the special Ladies’ Hostel and will be under the control of Miss Nancy Wilson, Bulls, the Dominion Akela Leader.

A contingent souvenir card has been designed by Commissioner F. Coleman, of New Plymouth, for the purpose of presentation to each nation attending the Jamboree. These have now been printed and are most artistic and typical of New Zealand.

The South Canterbury party numbers eight and is composed of the following, Waimate, two, Northdown Te Rangi, two Patrol Leaders, St. Mary’s, Scoutmaster, and Highfield, Scouter, Assistant and one Patrol Leader. The party leave Timaru on December 15 and sail from Bluff on December 17, arriving at Melbourne approximately December 21. They stop at Hobart on the trip over and come back via Milford Sound so they are assured of an interesting voyage.
