SWIMMING
WEST END CLUB The fortnightly meeting of the committee of the West End SwimmingClub was held on Thursday evening. Mr Elder presided over the following attendance: Miss P. Keen, Messrs L. Hunt, D. Elder, A. Ball, D. Stewart, J. T. Dennison. L. W. MacGregor, E. Ramsay, Dennison, J. Drummond. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. Gillon (hon. treasurer). A letter was received from the Mayor accepting office as vice-presi-dent and enclosing a donation. The Rev. Clyde Carr M.P. wrote accepting office as a vice-president, and promised the club every assistance in his power. Messrs A. Ball, L. Hunt and the secretary were appointed a programme committee. The chairman gave a resume of the annual general meeting of the South Canterbury Swimming Centre and stated that a system of standard entry fees at carnivals would probably be introduced. It was decided to promote a carnival at the West End Baths in December, subject to approval by the Centre. The secretary was instructed to ask the Centre to allot the diving championship to the club this season. To encourage swimming at the primary schools throughout the district. a team relay race will be held, and the schools will be invited to send a team of three boys and three girls to compete in this event. On the suggestion of Mr Ball it was agreed that all entry money at the forthcoming carnival be paid out as trophies on the basis of 70 per cent, to winner and 20 per cent, to the second man.
