HIGH SCHOOLS’ RUGBY TOURNEY
EFFORT TO END DEADLOCK. By Telegraph—Press Association INVERCARGILL. June 18. Reference to the deadlock regarding the South Island secondary schools’ tournament was made at the meeting of the Southland Rugby Union tonight by Mr R. T. Meredith, who suggested that they get in touch with the Otago and Canterbury Unions to see if something could be done to get the tournament under way again. It was too valuable an event, he said, to let slip into oblivion. Mr A. J. Geddes said the question was a delicate one for the Union. The schools had always run the tournament themselves. He favoured the age limit that had been suggested. It was a debatable point whether terms students were actually school pupils for the purpose of deciding eligibility. It was decided to write to the Canterbury and Otago Unions expressing regret that such a position had arisen, and inquiring of anything could be done to get the parties together and have the fixtures gone on with.
