UNREST IN INDIA
EXAMINATION OF MR GANDHIS OFFER. United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright (Received April 9, 9.15 p.m.) CALCUTTA, April 9. Government circles are reticent over Mr Gandhi’s decision to call off civil disobedience. No dramatic developments are looked for, but it remains to be seen what weight his words will carry. There is a strong party in the United Provinces against the relaxation of law-breaking, and bitter criticism in the Calcutta and Bombay Congress newspapers of the leader’s decisions. However the Government’s position remains that there must be abandonment or withdrawal of lawbreaking, before there can be any relations between the Government and Congress.
