FOKKER ENTERPRISE
FAST PLANES PLANNED FOR EUROPEAN LINES LONDON, March 26. "The Daily Express" predicts that British and European air lines will be gravely challenged as a result of Fokker having obtained a license to build in Holland a fleet of American Douglas monoplanes. The Douglas monoplanes are capable of a speed of 213 miles an hour and cruise at 190 miles an hour. They carry eighteen passengers. The average cruising speeds of aircraft now carrying the bulk of Europe’s traffic are: Britain 95, France 120, Holland 143, and Germany 152 miles an hour. A leading French aviation company, when arranging for special invalid aeroplanes, operating between London and the Riviera, found that dozens of invalids were anxious to fly to the Riviera, but this was difficult in ordinary machines, since it was often necessary for them to remain in wheeled chairs or even on stretchers.
