SWIMMING
WEST END CLUB. The West End Swimming Club’s series of races for the Juvenile Cup and the West End Ratepayers’ Cup were concluded in the West End Bath under dull but fine weather conditions, on Saturday. E. Dennison and R. King tied with 24 points each for the Juvenile Cup, and the holder will be decided by the committee. Miss Wilson was third, with 20 points. The West End Ratepayers’ Cup was won by D. Elder, with six .points, Miss A. Keen being second with five points. McGregor, who finished in second place in the final event was unlucky to be disqualified for starting before his time, otherwise he would have won the trophy. Results:— S 3 1-3 Yards Juvenile Cup.—Final: Miss Wilson 1, E. Dennison 2, J. Drummond 3. 66 2-3 Yards Juvenile Cup.—Final: R. King 1, E. Dennison 2, Miss Wilson 8. Time —61 3-ssecs. 200 Yards J. E. Chiles Challenge Cup.—E. Parsons (lOsecs) 1, D. Elder <scr) 2, J. A. McMahon (15secs) and L. Andrews (13secs) dead heat, 3. Time .—54 2-ssecs. 66 2-3 Yards West End Ratepayers’ Cup.—Miss A. Keen (9secs) 1, D. Elder (scr) 2. McGregor swam second, but was disqualified for leaving before time. The club picnic, which was arranged for Sunday, has been postponed. A PROVINCIAL TITLE. By Telegraph—Press Association MASTERTON, March 18. J. K. Thwaites, a 17 year old Lyall Bay swimmer, won the Wellington Provincial 880 yards title at a carnival held here on Saturday. Jack Barnes (Masterton) was second and N. Milligan (Lyall Bay) third. Thwaites won by 30 yards, while Barnes headed Milligan by a touch.
