Mamoi naval base on the Fukien coast, with the same strategic relation to Foochow as Woosung bears to Shanghai, fell into the hands of the Government naval authorities on Monday, and will now be used as a base for aerial operations. With the Navy preparing the way for the military attack on Foochow, whose Government troops on the Fukien and Chekiang borders are completing plans for a general offensive against the advancing Nineteenth Route Army of Communists, it is expected the rebels are facing certain defeat, terminating the independence movement in the near future.
