WEDDINGS

HAWKES—TIZARD. A wedding of considerable interest was solemnised at St. Mary’s Church yesterday, when Archdeacon H. W. Monaghan officiated, at the marriage of Noel Sparshott, son of Mr and Mrs J. H. Hawkes (Qua -*y Road) to Marjorie Elizabeth Mary, daughter of the late Mr William W. Tizard and of Mrs Tizard (Harper Street). The church was beautifully decorated with Christmas lilies and white hydrangeas and Christmas lilies were arranged on the altar. Mr A. W. Vine played the wedding music. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr P. G. Tizard (Blenheim) was gowned in an ankle length frock of beige l&ce with a wide ba,ku straw hat. She carried a bouquet of red rose buds. Miss Winifred Tizard, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. She wore an ankle length frock of delphinium blue georgette with a wide beige straw hat and she carried a bouquet of pink roses.

Mr George Tfcit (Christchurch) was best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s mother, Mrs Tizard, who received her guests wearing a frock of black silk relieved with white. Her bouquet was of mauve sweet peas and maidenhair fern. Mrs J. H. Hawkes, mother of the bridegroom, wore a frock of black and white silk crepe and she carried a bouquet of heliotrope stocks and fern. Mrs H. W. Brownlee, sister of the bride wore a frock of dark blue and orange figured marocain and an orange straw hat. Mrs S. D. Mason, sister of the bridegroom was in a crinkle crepe frock in shades of dark I blue, relieved with white and a white and blue hat; Mrs P. G. Tizard, blue and white ensemble and a blue hat; Miss F. L. Tizard, figured brown celanese frock and a brown hat; Miss M. Hawkes (Christchurch) brown and fawn striped silk frock and a brown hat; Miss Goldsmith (Sydney) cherry coloured phantom crepe, and hat to match; Miss Tizard (Blenheim), shell pink crinkle crepe, and a beige straw hat; Miss Harris (Methven), white organdi and a white hat. When Mr and Mrs N. S. Hawkes left on their honeymoon, the latter travelled in a suit of figured grey crepe-de-chine, worn with a white pandan straw hat and a white crepe-de-chine blouse. WISHART—STEVENS. A very pretty wedding was solemnised at Chalmers Presbyterian Church yesterday, when Dorothy Beryl, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs John Stevens, York Street, was married to Allen Edmund, elder son of Mr and Mrs R. M. Wishart, Smithfield. The Rev. Llywelyn Williams officiated. The church /as beautifully decorated with Christmas lilies, lupins and pink sweet peas. The bride who entered the church on the arm of her father wore a beautiful gown of magnolia mirror satin cut to form a wide train, coming to a point in the centre. The bodice of the frock was moulded into a high waist line with yoke and wide shoulder effect worked in satin rouleaux faggotted together over a pleated puff sleeve with deep cuffs. A magnoliatinted honiton lace veil attractively arranged from a coronet .of orange blossom, fell to form a train. She carried a bouquet of deep cream roses made with a trail of roses reaching to the hem of her frock. Misc ■ i Cora Stevens, sister of the bride &nd Betty Williams were the bridesmaids. They wore frocks of pastel pink organdi over satin of the same shade with unusual lattice rouleaux of organdi with open work effect in double lines from a high waist line to hem. The bodices of the frocks were cut with square necks with shoulder straps of wide lattice rouleaux and narrow puff sleeves. Smart floral caps of matching flowers added a finishing note and they carried dainty para tls of ribbon and lace to match. Ml- Miller Perry of Christchurch was best man and Mr Stanley Wishart brother of th bridegroom, was groomsman. Mr T. Porter was organist and during the signing of the .egister I.liss Florence Munro played a violin solo. Later the reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. The rooms were beautifully decorated with pink sweet peas and roses. Mrs Stevens received her guests wearing a frock of white and navy plaid check with a large navy bow at the ( neckline. Her hat was of a becoming red with a white band. She carried a posy of roses. The bride’s grandmother, Mrs W. Timpany, Invercargill, wore a smart nigger brown frock of wind-swept crepe trimmed with fine pleatings of reverse side of material, and a brown hat. Her posy was of pink roses. Mrs H. J. Washer, aunt of the bride, v re a frock of hen a and green chevron striped chepe-de-chene, .-.nd a hat to match. She carried a bouquet of abutilons. The bridegroom’s mother’s frock was of a wine coloured morocain romaine and she wore a pandan straw hat. Her bouquet was of sweet peas and roses in a matching shade. Later in the day when Mr and Mrs Allen Wishart left by car for the north, Mrs Wishart wore a brown and white smart tai red check costume worn with a high-necked string coloured jumper and smart hat of string colour with a brown band.
