WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

MT. NESSING. The December meeting of the Mt Nessing Women's Institute was held at "Brownhill,” the home of the president, Mrs R. W. Irving. The sum of £5 was voted to the Mt Nessing Hall Funds. It was also decided to give a donation of £1 to each of the following: St. Saviour’s Orphanage, Timaru, Presbyterian Children s Home, Timaru, and the Salvation Army Boys Home, Temuka. After the business was concluded tea was served in the garden, and members and visitors spent the remainder of the afternoon in the beautiful grounds. Mrs Fisher on behalf of those present, thanked Mrs Irving for her hospitality. Competitions resulted: —Christmas , gift to cost not more than 2- (judged bv Mrs Dick and the Misses Macaulay. Timaru), Mrs Austin 1. Mi’s Waters and Mrs Austin equal 2. Mrs Perry 3_ Specimen bloom (judged by’ Mrs Askin), Mrs W. Simpson 1. Mrs R. Irving 2. Miss Austin 3. Lettuce (judged by Mrs Black and Mrs Dunnet Miss K. Fraser 1. Mrs Askin 2, Mrs Brown 3. Vegetable bouquet—Miss Mulcock 1, Mrs Austin 2, Mrs Brown and Mrs Austin equal 3.
