Skaters will note by the advertisement on the front page of this issue that the closing night session will be held from 8 to 11 to-night. The old favourites, Monte Carlo, etc., will be held. The rink, after being renovated, will re-open on December 23 for the holiday season. H. Allchurch and Co. advertise the sale by auction on Friday next, at 2.30 p.m. of an ideally situated residence situated on the banks of the Opilii and recently occupied by Mr R. Shillito. The land is freehold and the residence is up-to-date in every detail. This is without doubt the finest fishing residence in South Canterbury. Full details will be seen in the auction columns. The official opening of the new pavilion at West End Park to-day is to be accompanied by a special gala function arranged by the West End Ratepayers’ Association. All kinds of amusements have been arranged. The new building is to be opened at 3.30 by the Mayor (Mr T. W. Satterthwaite). From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., a swimming carnival will be held in West End baths, and this is to be followed by a dance in the new pavilion. A. N. Oakey and Co, give preliminary notice of a clearing sale of household furniture and Armstrong-Siddeley sedan car to be held at the Unitarian Hall, Church Street, on Tuesday. December 19, under instructions from a client. Full particulars will appear to next Saturday’s "Herald.” At the South School to-day the annual flower show and gala will be held. This function has proved its value during many years. It is hoped that the public of Timaru, and parents of the school district will again accord their patronage and support to the committee and staff in their efforts on behalf of the children. At 2.30 p.m. the Mayor will officially open the show. Don’t forget the baby show. A grand variety concert, under the auspices of the Pleasant Point R.S.A., will be held at Pleasant Point to-night. A splendid programme has been arranged. Timaru is to be favoured to-morrow with a visit from the Band of the First Battalion, Otago Regiment, when a selected programme of music will be presented on Caroline Bay. The Band is one of ' the few military bands in New Zealand, and under the conductorship of Lieut. L. O. Asten, can be assured of giving the public of Timaru something out of the ordinary in band music. The usual popular dance will be held In the Bay Tea Rooms to-night. Excellent arrangements, including novelty dances, have been made to ensure a good night’s entertainment. Patrons are asked to 'phone 697 to reserve tables. The annual meeting of the North End Ratepayers’ and Improvement Association is to be held in the Waimataitai School on Thursday, at 8 p.m. The Ritz Dance Club's weekly dance will be held in the Goode Intente tonight. The .final of the maxina competition and presentation of the valuable grand aggregate cup will be a special feature. The Railway Department advertises in this issue that special trains at exceptionally cheap day excursion fares will run from Timaru to Dunedin on Sunday, December 17. The Railway Department advertises in this issue the daily running of the mail and express trains from Tuesday, December 19 to Wednesday, January 31 inclusive. Mr James Thorn, national secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party, who Is announced to speak on the Party’s policy in the Fairlie district next week has had a long connection with the Labour movement. He was one of the few who in 1905 laid the foundations of the present Labour Party, and in the 1905 general elections contested Christchurch South as the first Independent Labour candidate in the history of that city. The general public and especially ladles, are cordially invited to attend his meetings.
