legislative council. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 7. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Hon. Sir Edwin Mitchellson was granted leave of absence for the remainder of the session on account of illness. The Poultry Runs Registration Bill was received from the House and read a first time. The Greymouth Borough Relief of Unemployment Loan Validation Bill, the Bay of Plenty Licensing Committee Enabling Bill, and the Bluff Harbour Board Empowering BUI were put through their remaining stages and passed. The Auckland Transport Board Empowering Bill was read a second time. The Council rose at 3.15 p.m. until to-morrow.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES By Telegraph—Pres, Association WELLINGTON, December 7. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. The Rev. Clyde Carr (Lab., Timaru) drew attention to the Press Association message relating to the restoration of “cuts” by local authorities in England, and asked whether the Minister of Finance would appropriately review the position in New Zealand. Mr Forbes said he would bring the queston to the notice of the Minister of Finance who was absent at the moment. On the motion of the Prime Minister the two supplementary Public Petitions Committees were set up to assist the existing committees to complete the consideration of all the petitions before it, before the end of the session. The House agreed to the amendments made by the Legislative Council in the Scenery Preservation Amendment Bill. The Hon. E. A. Ransom explained that the amendments were of a minor nature. The Money Lenders Amendment Bill was put through its remaining stages and passed with minor amendments. The New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross Society and Order of St. John Empowering Bill, Victoria University College Amendment Bill and the Canterbury University College Amendment Bill were read a second time. The Summer-Time Amendment Bill (No. 2) was read a second time. On the motion of the Prime Minister it was decided that the House should sit from 2.30 p.m. till midnight tomorrow and Monday, and from 10.30 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. The House rose at midnight.
