PLEASANT POINT

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At the monthly meeting of the Pleasant Point District High School Committee there were present—Mrs Taylor and Messrs W. B. Oborn (chairman), Dr. Benham. L. Rendall, F. Popplewell and W. Halkett (hon. secretary). An apology for absence was received from Miss Kime. The headmaster (Mr J. J. McGuigan) reported as follows:—The attendance in the secondary department for the last four weeks has averaged 41.0 out of a role number of 44, while in the primary department the average w r as 150.2 out of a roll number of 155, the highest for the year. The cutting of the grass in the playground has made a wonderful improvement, and I would like to have it cut at frequent intervals. The proficiency and competency certificate examination was held at this centre on November 22, when 40 candidates from various schools presented themselves. The results for this school will be available for your next meeting. As this is my last report for the year I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you and your committee a very happy Christmas. It was decided to have the grass cut again before the break-up. The visitor for the month. Dr. Benham reported, that two panes of glass were required in the window in the pump house. Minor repairs were required digging away from foundations of new school. Owing to certain staff work to be done, it was decided to hold the breakup on December 19, at 2.30 p.m. with the arrival of “Father Christmas,” to be followed by maze marching, drill, folk dancing and a mannequin parade. It was left with the secretary to arrange with Mr C. C. Knight to supply music and to write to Mr Preen, inviting him to attend and address the scholars and present the certificates and medals.

The chairman took the opportunity of wishing members, the headmaster and staff the compliments of the season.
