TIMARU FIRE BOARD

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Timaru Fire Board was held on Monday. Present.—Messrs William Raymond (chairman), J. Hole, G. Benstead and C. S. Young. Annual Report. The superintendent, in his annual report, stated that the Brigade started the year with 22 members. One resigned and one joined, leaving the same complement. During the year the Brigade responded to 55 alarms, nine of which were dwellings. Most of the fires occurred between 7 and 8 p.m. The estimated value of property on which fires occurred was £63,020; the estimated insurance on property, £48,555; estimated insurance on buildings, £26,485; insurance on contents, £22,070, and estimated loss on property not insured, £BS. The total fire loss for the year was £2361. The superintendent extended thanks to the Board for tfie consideration given to all matters for the welfare of the Brigade, and also to the officers and members of the police force for their willing assistance. Officers and members of the Brigade had worked harmoniously in carrying out their various duties. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, congratulated the superintendent on the success of the year’s work, and said that the fire losses did not appear to be very great. Mr Hole seconded the motion, which < was carried. Election of Chairman. Before vacating the chair, the chair - an thanked members for the way they had assisted him during the year. They had worked harmoniously, and for the benefit of the Brigade. The Board’s officers, the superintendent and secretary, were both live men, and the Board was fortunate in having such efficient officers. Thanks were also extended to the Press. The secretary (Mr H. H. Fraser) thanked the chairman, on behalf of the superintendent, the Brigade and himself, for his kindly remarks.

On the motion of Mr Hole, seconded by Mr Young, Mr Raymond was re-elected for a further term.

Mr Hole was re-elected deputy chairman.
