EDUCATION EXPENDITURE OUTLINED. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 7. A reduction of expenditure totalling £736,691 during 1931-32, as compared with 1930-31, is shown in the annual report of the Minister of Education, presented to Parliament to-day. The principal reductions were in teachers’ salaries, £279,685, subsidies to schools and University Colleges £37,636, building and maintenance £48,515, grants to the teachers’ superannuation fund £IOO,OOO, new buildings and additions, etc., £183,953. Since March, 1931, further economies had been decided on, which it was estimated will reduce the gross expenditure by £1,224,582 for 1931-32, as compared with 1929-30, when the total was £4,181,778.
