CLUB NOTES. (By “Acceleration.”) FIXTURES. To-day—Hill Clumb, Tycho Zig Zag. October 6 —Kelcy’s Blush Club Run. TO-DAY’S HILL CLIMB. This afternoon on the Tycho ZigZag, the first of the Club’s speed events will be held, namely, the Novice and 350 Championship Hill-clumbs. In the first event there are two classes, 350c.c. and 500c.c., interest centering mainly on the latter, for which the largest entries are expected. In this class D. Wood appears to have a fair chance of winning, if he can tune his machine up to the required pitch. G. Potts, who is the owner of an exto be watched, although he has not had ceptionally fast machine, is also a rider any previous experience on the hill. R. Lee. Temuka, showed up well in the events at the recent Peel Forest run, and if enthusiasm counts for anything he should e somewhere in the running. It is doubtful whether A. Morton will ride, as he injured a wrist recently. Up to the present there have been no riders nominated for the 350 novvice class, but probably by the time entries close there will have been a big increase in both of these events. The 350 Championship is generally a very fast and exciting affair, the high revvving” machines screaming round the bends and corners in a thrilling manner. This year there is every possibility of a team of Christchurch riders coming down to compete, and this will impart an air of inter-club rivalry that should give a decided fillip to this climb. Amongst the local riders . Stoddart will probably be out again on his fast A.J.S., and rumour has it that A Hall will be mounted on something very swift indeed. C. Weir, who won the 350 novice event last year, has announced his intention of competing in the 350 championship, and with his very fast machine therei s just a chance that he may register fastest time. Hhen behind all these possibles there is a whole list of probable in whose ranks there may be a dark horse who will surprise everyone by checking fastest time.

he first event is timed to start at 2.30 p.m., and with a clear run and the co-operation of the riders and officials the final event should be ov*r by abut four o’clock.

OCCASIONAL COMMENTS. In a recent copy of the Motor Cycle” there appears an article on a tour from Montreal to San Francisco,, the journey being started on a well-known four-cylinder of American manufacture. Ow'ing, however to a series of breakdowns and engine failures, the rider ecambe thoroughly disgusted with his choiceof machine and exchanged it for a more reliable twin-cylinder. One more argument against the multicylinder. In the same issue is an interesting description of how a motor cycle would behave if fitted with the ’’doughnut - ' tyres that are becoming so popular on ’planes. The fitting of these tyres would necessitate, due to their wide section, the redesigning of frames and fork members, and this would spell a new gear-box and crank-case. Except for fairly low speed wox-k, one of these tyres on the front wheel seems to be out of the question, although such a tyre on the rear wheel appears to have greater possibilities.
