GRAIN AND PRODUCE. ~ j SOUTH CANTERBURY MARKETS. | Except in potatoes and seeds, there has been little activity in the South Canterbury grain and produce markets during the past week. The main activity has been in potatoes, the season for which is now almost at an end. A fairly heavy shipment, the balance of the September contracts, was made to Auckland, from Timaru and Lyttelton, and this has decreased the demand from that source. Prompts are quoted at £6 10 - per ton. f.o.b.s.i. The fact that spring sowing operations are commencing, has increased the inquiry for grass seeds. Several lines of cowgrass have changed hands at from £5 / 12 - to £5/15/- per cwt. f.o.b. The market for good quality ryegrass is firm, but there is not much offering. Little change has been recorded in the market for other small seeds. Supplies of good whole fowl wheat are short, but large quantities of undergrade are on offer. Quotations are from 44t0 4 6 per bushel f.o.b. On account of importations, orders from the North Island have been small. There has been little activity in the market for oats. A s are quoted at 3 6 to 3 6-j and B's at 3 2 to 3 3. On account of shortage of supplies here, most of the business has been going to Bluff and Dunedin. BASE METALS. TIN RECOVERS.
